Title: Time Marches On
Disclaimer: Not mine. Try Disney.
Characters: Alex from Time Force, an assortment of other Rangers
Summary: Alex lost Jen to his job. He lost his team when they went into the past. Yet, when something goes seriously wrong on a routine mission, he'll find a team of his own and maybe understand something other than the job.
Alex twirled the ring between his fingers, staring out at the city. She was back now, she'd been back for a while but that was it. She didn't love him anymore. Oddly enough, he couldn't blame her. He'd gotten too busy, stopped paying attention to her. He'd stopped paying attention to anything that wasn't work related and it had finally caught up with him. He sighed, clenching his fist around it.
"It's been a year." He hadn't heard her come up behind him. He groaned a bit, not wanting to deal with her right now.
"Leave, Renee," he muttered as the young woman waited. She ignored him, standing next to him and staring out in the same direction.
"Can't, Sir," she informed him, green eyes finally meeting his, though she was about half a foot shorter. "We have a job."
"Now?" He hoped that wasn't as whiny as it sounded, but by the annoyed look on the redhead's face, it was. He pocketed the ring, stretched, and nodded. Work had gotten him into this and he wasn't going to slack off now. "Details?"
"Temporal Fluctuation," she answered, hands behind her back as she stood directly in front of him. "2007."
"Cause?" He demanded and Renee shrugged.
"Problem unknown," she answered. "To be honest, Sir, our information on the whole matter is sketchy."
"Location?" He asked, hoping for anything by this point. It could never be easy, could it? It was always something difficult.
"California," she answered. "Beyond that, I'm not sure."
"Clothing suggestions?" He finally finished. She thought for a minute and then shrugged.
"Jeans and a t-shirt," she answered and he nodded, though he didn't like wearing other time period's clothing. She paused for a minute. "With all due respect, Sir…"
"Don't finish that, Renee," he said. "I'm not going to let this interfere with work. Is the ship ready?"
"Yes, Sir," she answered. She led him down the hall to where the time ship was waiting. It was smaller than the Time Ship Jen and the others had taken when they'd chased after Ransik, though not by much. They'd found that the sheer size of the other had been part of the reason for the crash and had worked on a second type. The Time Ship Beta had been a good success since he'd started using it. He turned to her and looked stern.
"Is there anything you're forgetting to tell me this time?" He demanded. "I don't want another incident like last time."
"I still don't understand why you were so upset, Sir. You've always looked up Supreme Commander Tate," she reminded him. At his look, she quickly continued without more protest. "Power Rangers at the time were Operation Overdrive. If we stay away from San Angeles, we shouldn't run into them. There were political and military problems, but nothing we should run into."
They climbed into the ship and he nodded. "Good. Let's go."
"Yes, Sir." The ship took off, spiraling its way back through time as normal until the alarms sounded. They were aware of the problem nearly before the alarms. The clock was going back, but there was something wrong with the system. Going back through time didn't allow for them to get up and check over the systems, unfortunately. They closed their eyes, hoping they would make it to the ground before it exploded. They'd have a chance then. They felt it enter into its last stage and winced. Their world blackened.

Xander relaxed against the tree, downing the sandwich Madison had made for him. It was his turn to check on the woods, which meant that he could have a picnic and fall asleep before returning and telling them nothing had happened. He loved his turn at being on watch. He'd gotten through the first half of his meal when he saw the portal open. The other half of the sandwich was on the ground and he was two seconds away from calling Nikki or Leelee to see what the hell was going on when he got a better look.
At the sight of the falling ship, he reached out through nature instinctively. The plants wrapped around the ship, being burned as it slowed. He sent group of the wooded vines after group until the ship hit the ground much slower than before. That said, he never had wanted Vida's powers quite as much as he had then. He could have just caught it in the air and lowered it without worrying about the heat.
He headed over, ready to fight if needed. Still, he didn't know what would be hurting Briarwood, not since the humans and others agreed to live together. They hadn't had problems since the Master was defeated. When the strangers came out, they looked wary and as ready to fight as he was. The Mystic Ranger headed over, less than carefully and grinned as he headed into Plan Xander. "Hello, names Xander. You're not from around here, are you?"
The man paused before deciding to ignore Xander completely as a lack of threat. The woman seemed to follow the man’s lead to the Green Mystic’s annoyance. He wasn’t sure if this counted as a success or another failure for Plan Xander and decided that he wasn’t done yet. “Your ride doesn’t look so good.”
“Noticed,” the man said. “Now, I have a job to do.”
“In Briarwood?” Xander asked. “Hate to tell you this, but you missed the war.”
“War?” The man asked and looked at the woman.
“Mystic Force, I believe,” she answered. He nodded at that before turning back to Xander.
“We’re not here for that war.”
“Well, there’s not anything else going on here,” Xander told them. “Unless you know something....”
“Nothing you need to concern yourself with,” the man answered. Xander was very annoyed by this point. You save a couple of people and they don’t even thank you.
“Consider me already concerned. Taking care of Briarwood is our job,” Xander answered smoothly, trying to get one or the other to talk. He motioned to the time ship, still covered in the wooded vines. “Look, your ride is in bad shape, you don’t look like you belong here, and you don’t have a place to stay, do you?”
“We have this under control,” the man argued.
“Really?” Xander asked. “Alright. Where are you going to get food? Besides, people live out here, you know.”
That, finally, made them pause. Xander inwardly grinned at that. Granted, they wouldn’t have been bothered unless it was by the ‘Welcome to the woods’ committee that insisted on bringing berries, bugs, and sometimes both mixed into pies when you first got there, but they didn’t need to know that. Considering it was Flormac the troll’s week to do it, it probably wouldn’t have mattered either since she often welcomed people with ‘Hi, have pie or I smash you’. Those who didn’t know her took it as a threat. Xander took it as a way to get free pie. Flormac’s pies were legend in Briarwood, troll or not.
The man looked at the woman and looked defeated as he nodded. “Lieutenant Alex Collins. This is Corporal Renee Hayworth.”
“You’re with the military? You don’t look like any military I’ve ever seen,” Xander informed them. Alex sighed.
“Have you ever heard of Wesley Collins or Eric Myers?” Alex asked in resignation. Xander thought for a minute before nodding.
“Kira mentioned something about them, yeah,” he answered. “Time something.”
“Time Force,” Alex snapped. Xander shrugged.
“Yeah, that could have been it,” he agreed. “That explains the outfits. Look, we’ll get you some clothes and food and you can stay at the Rockaporium. Toby won’t mind.”
“Toby?” Alex asked.
“My boss,” he answered. Renee lifted an eyebrow.
“Shouldn’t you ask first?” She asked.
“Nah. He’s used to me bringing home strays. We’ve done it a lot lately,” Xander answered. Alex and Renee looked at each other before following, looking like they were heading to the gallows instead of a decent place to stay. Xander shrugged it off. A little food, some rest, and they’d probably be more talkative. After all, a problem in Briarwood was a problem for him and he wanted to know about it before it happened.
