My thoughts under the cut.
I'm probably going to get some flack from this and I will accept it: I did not like this episode. I found it to be over explaining in a way that didn't need to be done. While this happens in most seasons, I just found it jarring. I didn't like the dialogue. I was miffed that the theme song was the same as the original. The story seemed to cut off weird as if the editing hadn't been done properly. I didn't really connect with any of the characters.
The story began and it was confusing. Alright, so it's not supposed to be the first episode then? I didn't understand that at all. RPM did start in media res, but they also made it to where I wanted to see more. I was happy enough to wait, but I wanted to eventually find out. With this series, it's just confusing not exciting. If I was just getting into the fandom, I probably would have given up on the series after this. As it is, I'm always willing to give a season more than one episode so I'll be holding on.
Everything just seemed heavy handed as if they needed to beat me over the head with it. I'm trying to accept that, but it's a little hard for me.
Like I said, I didn't connect with any of the characters, but I'm most disappointed with the female characters in this. I have nothing to judge them on. They could have not been there and it wouldn't have made a difference. That really bothers me. Especially with how little coverage the girls have gotten so far. All it makes me want to do is write femslash with other character.
Now, I will admit. I wasn't able to get into the Sentai version of this either. I seriously tried and just wasn't able to do it. This might be the series that I have to put down as my "couldn't watch it" series. Everyone has one they didn't like, this just might be mine. That said, I'll give it a few more episodes to find out.
