Author's Notes: Inspired by the "Mask in the Iron Man" arc of Invincible Iron Man (Quesada, Chen & Hunter, Marvel Comics, 2000). Characters and scenarios used with love, for fun, and not for profit.
This challenge was actually a Reverse Bang, ie, rather than artists illustrating a story, the art came first and the authors took their cues thence. Funny story: I had to get to work (claims went live at 7am NZ time) and only looked at the thumbnail before declaring that this particular piece of art must be mine. I got quite a shock when I realised what was actually going on. m_steelgrave did such a stunning job on the finished piece though, I was completely won over, and the story revealed itself to me in a sudden flash of inspiration.
