For the past 8 months or so, I have been kinda pissed off at my laptop. The touchpad stopped working that long ago, and the computer was less than a year old at the time. I had declined the warranty stuff I was offered when I bought the thing, though, so I determined it was my own damned fault. I did decide to never buy anything from Future Shop again, however. (Again, the first time being Boxing Day when I bought the laptop and camped out for what turned out to be no good reason because they had stupid management.)
Anyway, so the touchpad stopped working, the buttons that go with the touchpad stopped working. Try as I might, no matter what I did, I could not figure out why or how to fix it, and I ended up declaring it a hardware problem and buying a wireless laser mouse instead.
Fast forward to today.
Just after posting my last entry, I see something in the top corner of the screen that says Touch Pad. Curious, I hover over it, and it turns out to be my F keys (for some reason, my laptop includes an auto-hiding bar at the top of the screen which has exactly the same function as my F keys). Apparently, F9 enables or disables your touch pad. Embarrassingly, I've been blaming Future Shop and Toshiba for the past 8 months for the fact that somewhere along the line, 8 months ago, I managed to manually disable my touch pad and never noticed.
Needless to say, my touch pad works fine now, and I am glad I haven't told Fuzzy because I'd never live it down.
