Love Day

It's the 14th of February. Valentines Day. Love Day.

A lot of people focus on the "coupling" love. Husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, life partners and what not. And for the single person, it can get depressing if you let it.

Ever since i can remember, my parents have given Sarah and me Valentines gifts. Every 14th of February i'd wake up, go downstairs (or to the kitchen when we lived in single-stories), and down there would be a card and some little gift; a little pink plushie, heart shaped candies, something. My mom would give me a hug, and tell me how much she loved me. And that night, when Dad got home, we'd give him our cards, and there'd be hugs all around.

In elementary school, everyone gave generic valentines to everyone in class. They'd say corny things like "Sweets for a sweetie pie" or "Bee my Valentine" or "I Choo-Choo-Choose You" (yes, those are from the Simpsons), and everyone would be happy.

In middle school, i'd buy little cards or something for my good friends, and not look at the "couples" (let's face it, it was middle school, and there was no such thing) with their bears and such. I didn't envy them much, if they were still together in a week, it was a miracle. I was sad i didn't have a boy, but it wasn't scarring.

High school became more elaborate. Couples sucked face, gave roses, i even saw a guy give his girlfriend of 2 years a diamond ring. Crazy it was, being caught among all the hormones. And sometimes i'd get depressed.

But Valentine's Day is about love. Love of all kinds. And Love is my personal trumpet i pull out and toot on at every opportunity. There's so much love out there around me right now. I've got my family, my imouto, the billy, scarf posse, and all those friends out there who are showing me love in so many other ways. Just sitting and talking, hugs everyday, laughing good-naturedly over a joke at each others expense, helping out with missed assignments. All of it, Love, blaring down from all angles into my life.

Who needs a boyfriend? I got Love out the yin yang (i hope you don't mind i use your phrase, Imouto). And it is good.
