what and how Gwen remembers

I love watching Gwen trying to explain things in her own words, because it often provides such clear examples of what we think we remember is not what actually happened.

Yesterday morning at breakfast, she asked me "What is w(h)ine?" Not being entirely sure what she was asking for, I asked for clarification: "What you drink or what you do?" This didn't quite get a reply, so I figured I'd answer both: "Wine you drink is made from grapes that have been squeezed to get all their juice out, and whine you do is [and I gave an example of whining]." As happens when I don't understand what she's asking me, she got upset and frustrated. "No! The one that says 'I love you'!"

Oh! We had been talking about Goldie's name the day before -- about how he didn't have a name when we got him, and how she named him after Peppa Pig's goldfish, and how I decided that his full name should be "Goldwine", and that "wine" is an Old English word meaning 'friend', because he will be her friend forever.

So the 'wine' that says 'I love you' is the one which is the Old English word meaning 'friend'. :)
