More FilkCon thoughts

I finally got all my stuff unpacked and listened to the new recordings I bought or were given to me, and, having read all the other con reports and re-reading my own, I found I forgot to mention something.

There were so many people who sang in public, let it be on stage or in a circle, for the very first time in their lives. FilkContinental can do such things to you - you stand up and sing, and while singing, all fright and nervousness leaves you. This is what legoline told me - stage fright was over as the first note left her lips.
Tindó sang in a circle for the first time she vistits filk conventions - with help from tattercoats, and I really love her song about the FarScape character Pilot.
grinsekatze__ sang in a circle for the fist time - okay, last year she might have wanted to sing but she had a very very bad cold and could hardly even speak. I never knew she had such a rich and beautiful voice.
For the first time, we have heard Klaus sing (he did "A Grazing Mace" in Monday night's circle). Another beautiful voice I want to hear more often.
And Nemesis sings better each time I hear him sing.
tia_thereal wrote such a wonderful lament for Galadriel which Trudy asked from her in a circle - we never rehearsed that one together, but we DID it together - Tia's first time singing in a circle. How could I have forgotten to mention that? So SORRY, Tia! *hugshugs*

Hearing them sing and seeing them conquer their stage fright makes me damn proud, don't know why. Because they are friends and people I came to like much, and I feel happy for them. Because I remember how I felt as I dared do open my moth and sing something of my own stuff in a circle. I remember hearing shannachie muttering "Wow!" as I sang one of my songs in a late night circle some years ago, and it still fills me with pride.
It's a wonderful feeling.
It doesn't matter if you play an instrument or not, it doesn't matter if your voice trembles or is strong and loud, it just doesn't matter if your lyrics are German or English or French or Russian, if they rhyme or not.
It just doesn't matter.

And that's what I love about hanging out with filkers.

friends, filk
