How did you get started on writing?
I wrote my first book, a children's book, when I was 5. I guess books were always in my blood. I used to read hundreds of books every year-- I just couldn't get enough!
Have you ever considered giving up? If so, why?
I did give up, for about 10 years during college and afterwards. I had myself convinced that I couldn't "make it" as a writer, and so I made myself get a "real" major in college and study to become a marketing executive. Yes, I am now still in marketing, but it's not really my calling. It's my job. Writing is my calling, and thankfully it did call me back after many years away. If writing is YOUR calling, you won't be able to stay away... you will feel an itching, or hear voices begging you to come back.
Is there anything you can tell us about your next books?
Yes, Sleepless is about the legend of the Sandman, and the human girl he falls in love with and risks everything to be with. It will be released by Delacorte in 2010. And there will be more-- currently I am on a one-book-a-year schedule!!
