Let's Play Fallout 3 as Lockdown - Part 1

[Intro Movie]

Dad always told me that I was born in Vault 101. Mom died givin’ birth to me, he said. She suffered cardiac arrest after I was born. My first victim, I guess.

I don’t remember my early years that well. Dad said that when I was one year old, I was already walking like a pro. He left me in my playpen once, but I figured out how the gate worked and got out. Dad caught me when he came back, but he wasn’t mad. He said that I always liked to explore. He then showed me Mom’s favorite passage from the bible: passage 21:6. We then went to see Amata, the Vault Overseer’s daughter and my best friend since we were babies. She’s cute, but ain’t really my type. I’ve always been real close with Dad. We always felt like strangers here in the Vault, like we don’t belong. Dad’s got his lab assistant, Jonas, and I’ve got Amata, but Dad and I are the only family each other has.

On my tenth birthday, Amata threw me a surprise party. That was when I got my Pip-boy, the little computer I wear on my wrist. Butch and his little cronies spent the party coming up with names for the gang they eventually started, and the Overseer got all dramatic. Also, Andy the robot destroyed the cake. Amata got me a comic book; an intact comic book. Old Lady Palmer gave me a sweetroll, and then Butch tried to take it. I told him to shove it and then he picked a fight. Good thing the adults broke us up, or I would’a kicked his ass. Officer Gomez, one of the security officers, took him away. That sweetroll tasted even sweeter after getting the little punk in trouble. Then dad revealed that he and his assistant, Jonas, had an extra surprise for me. Beatrice gave me a poem as I was heading out. I just smiled through my teeth and took it, since I was in a hurry for Dad’s present. Jonas was down in the reactor and Dad revealed my surprise when he caught up to me: a BB gun. Best present I could’a asked for.

I spent the next few years honing my shooting skills. I could shoot the antenna off a radroach by the time I was sixteen. That was when it was time for me to take my G.O.A.T. It’s the general aptitude test that all Vault Dwellers have to take that determines what your job will be.

I tried to fake sick to get out of it, but Dad’s a doctor and he knew that I was faking. We started talking about Mom then. Dad said that she had great things in mind for me, and he kept stressing that the Vault was my home, and it was safe. No matter how much I wanted to leave.

As I was walking to class, I saw Butch and his Tunnel Snakes bothering Amata. That boy just didn’t know when to quit. I thought about punching his lights out, but Dad would kill me if I came home with bruised knuckles, so I just convinced him to get lost. The G.O.A.T. put me at tattoo artist. Not bad.

That was three years ago. Today, everything changed.

Amata woke me up early this morning. She was hysterical. I’d never seen her so scared. She told me that Dad was gone and Jonas was dead. The Overseer had gone nuts, and I was next on his list. There was only one option: escape. Amata gave me some bobbypins to break into her dad’s office and unlock the security tunnel that would lead me to the front door. She also gave me a gun, for protection. After she ran off, I grabbed my baseball bat for extra protection. Guess the team would need a new player after this.

I killed one of the security guards who attacked me in the hallway. My first real kill. I should have felt sick. I knew that I was supposed to be revolted. Maybe I did feel a little nausea. But for the most part… all I could think of was my own survival. Butch came to me and begged me to save his mom. I figured he’d give me away if I didn’t help, so I took a quick detour and saved his mom. The punk gave me his jacket as thanks. You do stuff for people, and they’ll reward you. I liked the sound of that. I ran into Officer Gomez a little later, and he let me go. So I let him live. Two kids got gunned down by security, and I had to make another kill on the upper floor. Again, I felt the nausea, combined with the adrenaline. I found Jonas’ body, and took what little he had. He wouldn’t need it anymore.

I was about to make a break for it, when I heard Amata. Her dad caught her and was threatening to have one of the guards, Officer Mackey, beat her if she didn’t give me away. Nobody threatens anyone under my protection. I barged in and killed Mackey, giving her time to run off, and then I threatened the Overseer until he got the message. After that, I just had to slip away and break into his office. Easy as pie. I hacked his computer, and found some interesting stuff while I was in there. There’s a nearby town called Megaton, the outside is known as The Capitol Wasteland, and there was a letter from a Dr. Stanislaus Braun. It talked about something called a GECK. It’s supposed to be this miracle tech that terraforms the nuclear environment. Our Vault never got one.

I opened the tunnel under the office and made my way to the entrance, where I opened the Vault door. Amata caught up to me, and wished me luck, turning down my offer to come with me. I ran through that door into the cave tunnel and never looked back, even as it closed behind me. The only thing standing between me and the outside was a wooden door. I opened it and took my first steps into the outside world.

The light blinded me, my eyes unused to natural light. When my sight cleared, I stared at the scenery. It was as ruined as everyone said, with broken roads, ruined buildings, and dust blowing in the wind. But it was also eerily beautiful. I was out. And this was my world now. My best bet is to get to that Megaton town the files mentioned. That and I should get some new dudes. I won’t last long runnin’ around in a Vault jumpsuit, with a measly 10 MM pistol and a baseball bat.
