Spinny!

Jan 14, 2014 15:50

Joined my mother for her volunteer session at the nursing home this morning. It's at the closed care section, where my nana lived the last year of her life, and most residents are in various stages of 'with it' and lucidity.
I'd brought both my spinning wheels and a load of wool and yarn, and talked a little bit about wool and spinning, but mostly I sat and spun. I had a bag of (rinsed) raw wool with me for people to feel (it's a sensory thing) and I made a bit of yarn. It was nice. I'm never very confident talking to the residents, so it was nice to have the spinning to do and explain or just let people watch. And apparently there was some interest from people who aren't normally interested in anything much, so that felt good.
