that I hate that I'm apparently so "perfect" that people are afraid to talk to me about controversial things or to confide in me if they've messed up somehow...

I am NOT perfect, and if I am giving off that vibe to people, I am doing something seriously wrong.

I....ummm....ripped the tags off of my pillows the other night because they were bothering me...even though they said it was against the law!!!!

i love you ruth...i'll confide in you...i think you're a little busted here and there;) But you are quite the lady of integrity too...if people are afraid to confide in you...it's probably because they are afraid you would tell them something they do not want to hear like the truth.
From what i know of you...you are a straight shooter and many people don't know how to handle that very well. Don't confuse who you are...with being a bad thing:)
