Nobody ever understood the Hitachiin twins; Hikaru and Kaoru. Nobody in their neighborhood, nobody in their family, and certainly nobody at school; save for a certain Haruhi Fujioka. She always understood them, and they respected that. Haruhi could easily tell them apart with one glance; not even fully looking at them, for they both gave off two very different auras. Hikaru's was fiery, Kaoru's was calm. She could tell, and they let her into their small world of 'us' versus 'everyone'.

Yet...nobody else could understand.

Not even New Yorkers.

Walking around hand in hand in the bustling busy streets of New York; the Hitachiin twins frankly attracted...attention to say the least. Yet they didn't mind. It was Winter Break for Ouran High School; and Hikaru suggested to go on a trip to somewhere in America. Kaoru had seen the festivals of the Americans on television; loving how bright and sparkling New York's lights were. His elder twin didn't even argue and booked the plane tickets for two immediately. Walking around, Kaoru mesmerized by the snow falling simply on the sidewalks; Hikaru knew Kaoru made a lovely choice.

"Ne, Hikaru...? Why does everyone stare?" Kaoru had asked as they rounded another corner in Times Square. Hikaru flashed him a grin, looking as two females smiled with 'I heart Yaoi' shirts on. They stared at the twins, Kaoru who was leaning on Hikaru's shoulder, his cream colored turtleneck sweater standing out against Hikaru's brown chocolate one. "Ah...excuse us..."

Quickly Hikaru kept walking, hand around Kaoru's waist as they passed by the girls they almost ran into. The two were obviously puzzled at the native Japanese speakers; not understanding a word Kaoru had said. Yet they let out an otaku cry, Kaoru wincing from the pain of the ear piercing scream. Hikaru covered his ears for him and took another corner, walking into a Starbucks coffeeshop.

"Baka otakus." Hikaru groaned, sighing in unison with his brother at the warmth of the store. People glanced and returned to their coffee; muttering 'foreigners' under their breaths. Kaoru smiled and lead Hikaru over to a corner booth, in front of the window; outlooking the bustling city. It surely was more crowded than Japan; which the twins didn't necessarily like. Yet being in the coffeehouse certainly was inviting, the warmth and cheerfulness of being inside around Christmas time. "What do you want, Kaoru?"

"Instant coffee."

"Ne, me too, me too." Hikaru agreed, getting up to go order. He tried to order in English, yet his accent overpowered his speaking skills, Kaoru giggling back in the corner booth. A blush creeped on Hikaru's skin, the server telling him there was no instant coffee. Hikaru groaned and translated for Kaoru; who didn't want to learn English. He groaned and pouted slightly, asking for a frappuccino to Hikaru. He nodded and ordered what was asked for and went to sit back down with his twin brother. "Picky."

"Nyaa, not my fault. Commoner's coffee is so good." Kaoru whined back, smiling. Hikaru rolled his eyes and held his hand from the other side opposite him, amber eyes meeting a mirror image. He ignored the woman calling his name for their dranks, just for a few minutes. Time suspended in the air when Hikaru leaned over the table to kiss his boyfriend, who only blushed from the public attention. A few people were immediately disgusted, yet some were mildly interested. Hikaru pulled away reluctantly, going to get his coffee for them both. Kaoru sunk lower in the booth seats, blushing from the fact that a lot of people were now looking.

"Ne, here you go Kaoru." Hikaru chimed happily, handing him one of the frappuccinos. Sitting back down, Hikaru sipped out of his, talking every once in a while. Some people got up to leave, others stayed to watch the two speak in their native language, giggling and looking at the 'commoners' in their 'natural habitat'. After the twosome got bored, they left as well, holding hands and walking through the Winter setting in New York, heading back to their accomidations. Before they did, however, they stopped in Centeral Park, laughing and walking through Strawberry Fields, Kaoru smiling at the snow as he cuddled up against his brother.

It didn't matter if the New Yorkers or the Japanese didn't understand them.

They understood each other, and they were one in the same; just like the snowflakes that were falling. A different pattern on each, yet with the same likeness as another snowflake. Not exact; but similar. That was just how the Hitachiin twins were. Different snowflakes falling from the same sky. At least, that was how Kaoru saw it as. Smiling as the mirror images sat on the park bench, snowflakes falling in their hair...Kaoru would say he was right. Corny, but nonetheless exactly right.

To both the Hitachiin twins; the world of 'us' was a better contender than the world of 'them'.

For 'us' was all they needed.
