"First five minutes" test is a thing I have about anime and fan fiction. I can usually tell if I like something by either watching or reading for five minutes at the beginning. Ones that pass this test usually manage to get me hooked in less than two anyway (Just the opening theme of SC, for example.). Either the drawing style strikes me, or the topic or setting grabs me. The ones I feel strong aversion to within the first five minutes (and there are tons of reasons) usually fail to reverse my decision by the end of the whole episode or roughly 30 minutes. I'm not the type to try to like something simply because other people are into it. If something doesn't appeal to me, there usually are reasons that I can easily point to and it's not going to change.
Anyway, I stumbled across anime "Claymore" last week. I've read the first volume of the manga at the bookstore in English (eww...not my favorite thing to do), but was not aware of the anime series from 2007. Much to my delight, this anime passed my "first five minutes" test with flying colors and never disappointed for the entire 26 episodes. The only thing that was disappointing was that there is no season 2 for reasons that are beyond me. Awesome setting, awesome drawing style, totally cool characters, and good music (including the opening and ending themes). I was told that this series was done by the same people as "Fate/Stay Night", so I gave that one a shot, but I'm sorry to say that it didn't interest me at all. (Most any anime that has a character wearing big pig-tails with big bows who talks in high-pitched girly voice isn't going to get me interested, period. And I keep finding the huge eyes less and less to my liking these days.)
Anyway, if you like Scottish giant swords, beautiful female half-demon half-human warriors, action/violence, blood, human-eating demons, and occasional poignant emotional moments, I recommend this series if you haven't seen it yet. =)
