"all's right with the world." is what laurabryannan made Yukimaru say. And his words summarized my feeling perfectly about Jin and Mugen. *sigh...* To congratulate laura for finishing the epilogue of BaU (Please see her journal!) and hidden_gems for finishing up her Mugen picture today, I just had to put this all together. :D
HG and I have been running off with the idea of older J and M ever since Laura posted the teaser in anticipation of the completion of BaU epilogue. I have not had quite this much fun doodling in such a long time. Seriously, I never have dreamed that I'd spend this much money on a doodle-related toy like I did the other day. XD But I totally am feeling "all's right with the world" at the moment. Yeah, 2009 is off to a fun start.
I just had to put everything together for the fun of it on this post.
First there was the teaser post by Laura...

"... I can't believe he's still wearing that stupid beard. It makes him look like an old codger.”
“No it doesn't!” Yatsuha cried. “It's too short for a grampa beard. I think it looks kinda hot. He was always so scraggly.”
“He grew a beard when he finally could,” Yuki snickered. “He'll never chop it off now, but I think it's hot too.”
“Well, I hate it,” Fuu decided, unmoved by their enthusiasm.
“Who would have thought Jin'd go so gray?” Yatsuha mused. “He's still as beautiful as ever, though. Maybe even more. All that silver looks really handsome.”
“Wasn't his grandfather prematurely gray?” Yuki asked Fuu.
“Yes,” she replied, “but his father was balding, so....”
The three shuddered.

With that snippet, we took off with our imagination...
First I did a doodle of silver-haired Jin and went out of control with the cherry blossoms...
Then HG does a lovely version of older Jin. We share wacky panicky moments discussing just which wrist Jin wears his beads and realize that the anime was inconsistant in this regard and also about Mugen's tats.
Later, AD does another version of Jin (just because she can't have enough of him, period). This time a little less sketchy and a lot more old-fashioned shoujo manga-esque.
And now we're off to draw older Mugen. But first, we both had to pick Laura's brain some more about the details before we could envision older Mugen... We were told, "sinfully grey-less both hair and beard, suits or any modern clothing, although naked in the epilogue", and we were given a link to a pic for the look of his beard she had in mind.
AD's New Year's drawing was this Mugen.
And today, HG finishes her sexy Mugen. *joy*
If we lived closer together, I'd say we should all go out for a celebration. XD
