How did you come to start your LJ?
I saw that others had blogs and I thought I might try doing it. I had no idea it would become so much a part of my daily life.
How did you find your first friends?
I started joining some quilting and reading groups, and friended some there. Some of my friends found me, others asked if i could friend them. A couple of my friends were here already and I friended them.
Are those first friends still on your FL?
Yes, most of them are! I have had very few "unfriending" in my journal, and I've been here a pretty long time.
How long have you been on LJ?
I joined on 2-19-04, so it has just turned five years!
Do you have more friends or communities on your FL?
More friends, I don't belong to very many communities at the moment
Do you do a lot of friends cuts?
Not many at all.
What do you like in an LJ friend?
Friendship, being "heard", honesty, lack of drama and flaming, sharing of our lives. I like it when our lives cross over into "non-cyber world" such as mailing things to one another, and that sort of thing. But I really don't ask much of my friends. I like when they comment. Comments are WONDERFUL to me.
What do you dislike?
I dislike lying, and drama for the sake of drama, with a passion!
What would make you un-friend someone immediately?
If I find they have been betraying me or lying about me behind my back. I've only done that once. normally I let the situation sit for awhile and see if it calms down. I don't like conflict much at all.
Have you been caught up in a lot of LJ drama?
I don't know what "a lot" is, but I've had more than I care to deal with. I do not like drama at all in LJ! I know that it is hard to convey feelings through this media sometimes, and that can lead to accidentally hurt or misunderstandings. It is when they get blown out of proportion that I can't handle it.
Do RL friends and family members know you have a journal on LJ?
Yes, the very few that I have. BTW I don't like the term "real life" (RL) because this IS real life. My friends are my REAL LIFE friends here. So I say "in person" friends, or non-cyber friends.
Do you also have Facebook and if so, what do you prefer - LJ or FB?
I do have Facebook, but I definitely like LJ better. Facebook has just snippets of comments. I like the whooooole story! And lots of photos!
What about Twitter?
I have it, but Facebook is more fun.
Do you blog on any other sites?
not any more
How often do you check in on LJ?
Many times a day. Of course I am home all day so it is easy for me to do that.
What do you rarely or never post about?
I can't think of anything, though I am posting less about controversial things now. I try to use my filters for those.
Why don’t you post about that?
Drama!
Have you ever thought about deleting your journal?
Absolutely not! Five years of my life invested here!
Have you ever changed your username.
I just did, a few days back, for the first time ever.
Why did you choose your current username?
Because my passion is quilting, and it isn't a name that can be misunderstood or false assumptions made. I don't get judged as much by people who thought I should be a certain way. I like to Quilt. I am a quilter. My nickname at home is "Bear" (so is my husband's!), so it made perfect sense to me. I like my new name a lot.
If you’re looking for new friends, how do you find them?
I find them through other friends.Occasionally someone friends me, or I find a friend through the quilting groups.
Are you taking new people on to your Friends List just now?
Yes, I love making new friends!
Finally, tell us the reasons why you keep an online journal:
It is my connection to the outside world, since I am 95% homebound, and it is a place of expression. I can post photos, and emotions, and events that are noteworthy to me. I've been a writer all my life and this is now my place to channel that, when I'm not working on my novel (*blushes* because I've not worked on it lately!)
