Beeep...

Okay... tell me what evil plot is this... the one that makes the smoke alarm-at 2.45 *am*, no less!-chirp like a lovelorn cricket to inform me that it needs its battery replaced, yet cleans us out of all nine volt batteries???! I'm now sharing the joy... I managed to pull the sucker out of the wall... and it's now laying on the ground next to the front door of the apartment.

Incidentally, I've managed to produce a little over a thousand words in my story so far. They're separate key scenes, each needing to be fleshed out (and obviously, also needing the accompaniment of many more scenes), in which I introduce important characters. The first chapter is 672 words right now.

Another newbie writer question is about to escape my fingertips... so... how long *is* a chapter supposed to be? Does one separate scenes by chapters, or just breaks? At this point it feels much like when I start on a knitting project... I can knit you a veeeeeery long scarf, but I haven't a clue as to how to finish it off, or how or when to add additional stitches (or other yarn, for that matter). What?! The analogy sounded like a good idea at the time...

Alright... back to bed... hopefully the chirping won't be too bothersome, through the front door.
