Today, I began looking over all the fees that I will need to pay over the next few years of graduate school. Very scary. So, I decided to do a search for online scholarship applications. This one had interesting questions, so I decided to fill it out. It's kinda fun... almost like one of those fill-in-the-blank email forwards. Here are the questions and my response:
1) In 100 words or less, write something that will make the judges laugh out loud.
When I was a little girl, I was attacked by a German Shepard and had to get a large number of stiches on my forhead and scalp. (That part is not funny, so I will breeze over the details of the actual event.)
Shortly after returning home from the hospital, we discovered that I had a series of crossed nerves which caused me to sneeze uncontrollably anytime that someone brushed my hair.
You can imagine the torment I endured at slumber parties growing up... they would chase me around with a hairbrush yelling "Just one more time... please!!!", followed by incessant laughing at my "freak-show" misfortune.
2) Invent a new word. In the box below, enter the word followed by its definition. Then use the new word in a sentence.
Blogsessed
(v.) To have the mind excessively preoccupied with an online journal.
Sometimes, I can't get any productive work done because I am so blogsessed!
3) Describe your earliest childhood memory.
My earliest childhood memory is of a regular evening with my dad. We were waiting to pick up my mom from the evening shift at the grocery store where she worked. I'm guessing that I was about 3 or 4 at the time. To keep me quiet my dad gave me a handful of Fig Newtons. I called them "magic cookies" because of their ability to break apart and then stick back together. I remember wondering over the tasty goodness of those "magic cookies" with a Billy Idol video playing on MTV in the background. I was an easily amused child I suppose.
4) What is your favorite web site?
http://www.dooce.com 5) Why is the web site you listed for question #4 your favorite web site?
I like this website because it reminds me on a daily basis not to take life too seriously. I have a tendancy to worry about the smallest things in life. Hearing the satirical musings of Heather can often make me laugh about them. To me, she represents the average person... and the average life. She is very easy to relate to. Her language is often very candid and colored, but I respect that she doesn't censor her thoughts or feelings. There is something very raw about it. She gives everyone a peek into her innermost thoughts and I (with my nosy tendencies) can't get enough.
Tell me what you would have answered with! Pretty fun topics!
