The internet.... friend or foe???
So I've gotten to thinking a lot lately about how much time I spend on the internet and how it has affected my life.
This profound thinking was spurred on by a spoof that I encountered last week. I received an email early in the morning that told me that someone had been added to my paypal account and that if I didn't want them on there I needed to log on and remove them. Partially due to it being early/partially due to my stupidity, I clicked on their link and began logging onto what I thought to be the paypal website.
Now, the website that this link sent me to seemed totally legitimate. It had all the links and text that the real website has. Also, the address was a www.paypal.com site name. Silly, gullible me.
I ended up giving them just enough information to sign into my real paypal account. Which meant that they had all of my account information. (Idiot!) Long story short, after closing all of my accounts with Paypal I had to call my bank, report my account there stolen and survive on my Visa charge all weekend. Joy.
Despite all of the potential predators out there, I just can't get enough of the www though.
