My high school theatre career is officially over. I don't really know whether to be excited for the next big thing or incredibly depressed. Maybe a mix of both. High school drama has been just about the biggest force of my life for the past five years, and now its just...finished. But at least it went out with a bang! ;)
It was a great and wonderfully crazy week.
Tuesday: We drove down there, leaving at 4pm. and arriving at our hotel at around 8:30pm. Along the way, one of the crew members left her purse at the restaurant where we stopped. Our teacher spent the whole night calling around, trying to find it, but to no avail--yet. When we pull up to the hotel, we find that its right next to--A STRIP CLUB?! Yup, 'The Mirage'. Grrreeeaaattt....:\ We know where the boys'll be lookin'...
Wednesday: Up bright and early for our tech rehearsal, which starts at 8:30am. Once at the school, we find out that the truck with our set in it has been delayed because of freezing rain in our hometown. Fortunately, the festival tech crew was wonderfully understanding and pushed back our time by fifteen minutes. Once the truck arrives, we find that we're missing our chairs and the top of our bar! After ranting for a while, our director tries to figure out what to do, while the rest of us work out the tech for the show, and deal with the monstrous accoustics of the 'cafetorium' which we performed in. Not too shabby. :)
We head to ValueVillage to buy new chairs, and the man who drove our truck finds some lumber to build us a new bar top (he built the first one too!) with measurments that his daughter (another cast member) took with spike tape. Amazingness!
That afternoon- a strange knocking at the door. Someone answers it, only to find a mysterious ice box sitting on the floor. The same person opens it and screams. Great. A blue dildo. Sent by the guys. With a note addressed to one of our cast- "Saw this, thought of you." Five minutes later- another note. "Don't touch this! We found it by a dumpster." Well now, the girls must get even, n'est-ce pas? So we dumped the dirty thing into an empty pizza box, smeared it with garlic sauce, and added our note note- "Thinking of you the whole time." ;) Then I delivered the pizza with the straightest face I could manage and ran away. They later called us immature- like hell!
Soon, performance time. We watched a play first, one which none of us liked very much, then got ready and put on our show. Oh, and that bar top Kate's dad built for us- 1/2 inch too small- a piece of the spike tape had broken off! So our stage manager balance it precariously on top, and we went on our way. Then, at the beginning of the first scene, CRASH! It slipped! Well, that'll teach us to forget stuff. ;) Other than that, the play went off without a hitch, and the acting part went great. Off to the hotel to party!
The boys show up with a mysterious bag of chips...seems kinda heavy for just holding hickory sticks...oh, look, the reappearance of the blue dildo, now affectionately named "Blue Stu". Good thing I wasn't hungry. *lol* Someone finally got sick of the whole joke and just tossed the thing in the garbage. The boys were upset about it for the rest of the week, even signing the commemerative banner with "Dedicated to the memory of Blue Stu". **sighs** Boys will be boys...
Thursday: Early morning adjudication. She said lots of wonderful things, I got a lot of mentions for some of the little things that I do, and she even got us to get up and work on reblocking scenes and changing some of our acting stuff. I love that. Our other adjudicator had just talked to us. This was interactive and wonderful. I loved it! I went ice skating for the first time in four years- they have an ice rink inside the mall! I was astonished and pleasantly surprised. :) Finished it off with the best smoothie I have *ever* had. MMmmmmm...We later saw three more shows- one of which was great, one of which was all right, and another which was not all that good.
Friday: The only day we could finally sleep in, and sleep we did. I met some kids from another school and went ice skating again. Saw four more shows- two of which were absolutely FABULOUS, one that was pretty good, and another one which I didn't really like at all. That's it for the plays!
Saturday: Participated in two workshops- Stage Combat and magic. Anybody want to fight me now?! **giggles** Oh, and a mind trick for you. Pick a number between one and ten. Multiply it by 9. Add the two digits of your answer together. Subtract five. Turn that answer into a number, ex. 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, etc. Then, pick a country which begins with that letter. Take the last letter of the country, and pick an animal that begins with that letter. Now, pick a fruit that begins with the last letter of the animal. I bet you're thinking of a kangaroo eating an orange in Denmark. ;D (If you're not, you're part of only 2% of the world who thinks originally- supposedly. Post your answer- I want to know what others come up with!) I also got all dressed up and attended a fancy banquet and ball, which were both great. Oh, and that awards ceremony? Our play didn't advance to the next round, but we *did* pick up three awards- our Stage Manager got the Outstanding Stage Mangement award, our band won their second award for excellence in original music composition and performance, and I got a certificate of merit for acting! (My first award ever! Woohoo!)
That's it, really. A nice way to end an era, I think. :D And yes, now I need to actually do homework and HOL stuff. :)
