I don't know, is it just me, or has this half-season been less awesome than the previous 3 seasons? Is it just that the break was too long between season three and this one, and I've lost the thread? Or that, with baby around, everything's changed (as so many people are found of so vaguely saying)? Is it that I've been so focused on "all will be revealed" and have felt let down each time nothing is revealed?
I feel as if we should have been getting a little deeper into how the final four are processing the whole I'm a Cylon thing and honing in more on what happened when we thought Kara died. There should be a whole story line centered on the fifth Cylon -- and not a "resurrect someone who will tell us, and thereby open up a whole new story line" story line, but something with several fake-outs and uncomfortable suspicions and so on -- something more like what Boomer and the others went through. Something with some real character development.
Instead, we've gotten stories that feel to me as if they're coming out of nowhere. Rosslyn's crisis of coldness feels forced to me; Baltar's cult seems sudden and weird from a writing perspective. Don't get me wrong -- there have been some very good things happening -- the Demetrius thing was good, the Caprica Six/Helen and Colonel Tigh thing is good. But overall, the whole batch feels very uneven and unbalanced, exactly like a show that's rushing to tie things up and, in the process, is throwing in too many things and leaving too little time for major plot and character developments to truly blossom: something which had been one of the show's major strengths.
What am I missing here?
