Vancouver was really great. Truely one of the most beautiful places I've seen. Nice people too. I met a college senior from Edmonton at the conference and he and his family took me out to Capone's for dinner and live music downtown, which was cool. As we were wandering around... I saw Darth Bear! They've got this statues they're doing for charity decorated all kinds of ways. But you just can't beat Darth Bear.
I ended up spending my day off at Grouse Mountain. It was really pretty up there (the skyride and seabus were nice too). I think I made it almost all the way up the mountain (starting from the park itself not the base), but I tired enough that that last incline with the evil slippery rocks looked really scary. I did get to see a grizzly bear, having a great time splashing around in the pond. He was chewing on a big branch, flipping it around, etc until the other bear came along. He tried to harrass the other bear to get in and play, but it didn't completely work out. Those bears had found a way to stay cool. Speaking of which, it so was not as cool as advertised. Their heat wave slightly cooler than the Dallas heatwave, but not by much. I wore a tank top and am very sunburned. Rudolph the red nosed lobster who smells of aloe vera. So much for all my bravado about the heat not bothering me. It was worth it for the view, birds of prey (who for some reason all had Tolkien names), and the bears though.
