Just got back from a conference in Hershey, where they hand you two Hershey's bars whenever you interact with the hotel staff. Ridiculous. But I did find a bunch of obscure or commercially unavailable treats

I don't know if you're implying that THEY are rare, but Take 5's are all over Pittsburgh-- at least the "regular" ones. I've seen some peanut butter and no other variety. Maybe they're in test... They do seem very "love it or hate it," I have some friends who are bonkers for them.
Hershey's does this weird thing where they curdle the milk to give the chocolate a unique bitter taste, and frankly, I don't like it. I'm not sure I'd trust them to do "quality" chocolate, I've stayed away from their dark bars. On the other hand, Reese's cups are by far my greatest weakness among widely-available junk food. (My real preference is the Green and Black's 70% cocoa bars, which I'll eat just a couple of squares at a time. I've had some more expensive chocolate, including single-source fancypants stuff, but nothing beats Green and Black's yet.)
I'm glad I'm not too close to you, I'd still gobble up that junk food in a snap! It must have been quite a pleasant trip, good for you if you had the willpower not to eat yourself sick.
Yeah, I suppose I didn't mean that all those were rare: some of the ones in the free basket were pretty common (there was a regular Hershey's bar in there, for example). And perhaps I don't pay enough attention to the candy aisle, because some of the ones I'd never heard of are probably in there. Take 5s are damn good, though.
Huh. Hadn't heard that about the curdling. Doesn't seem to be my thing either, at least not by itself. Occasionally they'll add something worth it, though. And their white chocolate thus far seems to be a weinner.
Strangely enough, I had little urge to eat the stuff while I was there. Too busy, I suppose. It's more now that I'm home and it's constantly available that I find myself tempted.
I've never seen the Green and Black stuff, I don't think, though it sounds good. I was way into the Dove darks for awhile, and we've had Ghirardelli squares around forever. Hmm. I wonder if Wegman's carries Green and Black . . .

The nice thing about one of the really high cocoa content bars is that a small amount takes care of chocolate cravings... I end up eating less.

On the other hand, I just had one of the Reese's Big Cups, and man, those are good.
