Tomorrow is the National Day of Silence, and I will not be talking until 6:30 P.M. The Day of Silence is intended to symbolize the silence faced by gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people and their allies. During this day, people all over the United States will be taking a vow of silence in support of these people. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you will not be hearing tomorrow.
What are you going to do to end the silence?
