zine reading a success!

Last night was my first zine reading at the new house. I spent the whole afternoon making labor-intensive snacks and cleaning/rearranging the living room so that large amounts of people could be comfortably accommodated. However, it was such a nice evening (and so many people showed up) that we went ahead and had the readings in the yard, a space made even more awesome because of the outdoor light bulbs that Poto strung up along the clotheslines.

I read a couple of very cute zines from 2005, remembering that yes, there was a time when I wrote cute zines. Dan read next, about his adventures on Failing Street in Portland. Speaking of Portland, Moe Bowstern read from her commercial fishing zine XtraTuf. She also sang songs about sailing and (singalong) sea shanties. (Try saying that last sentence ten times fast.) It started getting pretty dark, and I had to turn on the back porch light for Ocean to read. By the time Mary and Leanne read, the porch light wasn't enough and they read with Dan's head lamp. The event was incredibly fun and well-attended, and I look forward to hosting more traveling zine readers in the future.
