Thunder Mountain and such

Mary and I left town yesterday morning, immediately getting on I-80 East and staying there. We drove through California, stopping at the Donner Party monument to pay respects to cannibals and then continued on into Nevada. We passed by a cluster of obviously homemade structures out of cement and found materials, so of course we had to stop. The place is called Thunder Mountain park and is accessible only via a gravel path off the highway near the exit for Mill City. It's a pretty spooky and incredible place, with bottles and windshields used as doors.

We made it almost completely through Nevada before stopping for the evening. We both got a very poor night's sleep in the truck at the rest stop. This morning we continued on into Utah. We stopped at the Great Salt Lake to walk around on the crunchy beach, where we saw at least 100 dead birds in a small area.

We've spent our time here in Salt Lake City eating food (at the place I ate at the last time I was in town, where you can pay by donation) and hanging out here in the event room at the library. Bibliophile geek-core 2008!
