Finally home

I saw an e-learning tool presentation today, the presenters are from India (I think some will know which product I'm talking about). They're selling their software for about $4000 per user. What I didn't like about it was how they promote it by condescending Adobe Flash. Man, I'm up for any e-learning development, but please don't insult the others.

I use Adobe Flash sometimes, I know it has its ups and downs. But over the time I've grown to like it, so perhaps this is subjective.

The presenters demonstrated a content created with their authoring tools, and they told us how it was much superior than using Adobe Flash. It supposedly has much lower price with exactly the same "exciting" factor. So... Adobe Flash costs $700 and they're saying it's more expensive than something that costs $4000?

They also presented this nonsensical comparison table which showed that designers with Flash would need 30 hours, while those using their product would only need about 2 hours. They even said that with their product, everyone could be a one-man army e-learning developers! My, my... Excuse me, Sir, but did you even pause to think about the instructional design, or maybe about finding permission to use those copyrighted images/videos?

It also bothered me that they are so proud for using templates. I'm pretty sure many corporate clients prefer to use their own style than using default templates. What if I want a fully customized interface? Oh it's easy, they say, just buy their other software to edit the templates, it only costs another $5000... Yeah. Just input your desired parameters over there, and it will later generate a "guide" file, providing some AS2 codes you have to manually input to your desired layout, which should be designed in FLA format. In other words, you need to design the template using Adobe Flash...

So they actually need Adobe Flash! @_@

On the way home I stopped at a mall nearby and watched Tekken. It was one of my favorite games when I was a kid, but I haven't played the later series on PSP and PS3, I don't have the console(s).

The story is really different from the game, I honestly don't like it. I didn't get my hopes up, but I also didn't expect it to be like this...

Some notable Tekken characters were also left out: Paul, Lei, King, Xiaoyu... Every Tekken player knows these characters, but the movie use newer characters instead like Sergei and Miguel... :(

Jin Kazama: They make movie!Jin a playboy brat +_+ Jon Foo is a bit too small to be Jin. He looks plain and his hair isn't spiky enough. His acting is annoying. Also, movie!Jin has the Devil tattoo on his left shoulder, but there is no sign of Devil Jin :(

Jun Kazama: Tamlyn Tomita is a beautiful woman, but I think Jun should be... a different kind of beauty.

Kazuya Mishima: They made him THE villain who's addicted to TV ratings, and at some point of his life he raped Jun. This is too much! T-T He doesn't sport Kazuya's signature spiky hair. Also, the actor doesn't look classic-Japanese enough. Ian Anthony Dale looks more like Marshall Law.

Heihachi Mishima: Now Heihachi is a good guy? Since when?? In the game he threw Kazuya off a cliff and the movie doesn't even mention this. Here he also doesn't look like a formidable opponent.

Christie Monteiro: Sexy and pretty, but she looks more like Julia Chang.

Nina&Anna Williams: Now they're both Kazuya's whores!? Anna has the wrong outfit color. Nina's costume is ridiculous, and it isn't blue enough.

Marshall Law: Cung Le is too "wide" to be Law. Marshall Law should be thinner, and noisy.

Steve Fox: It's a totally WRONG version of Steve! He looks like he's old enough to be Jin's uncle or something +_+

Miguel Rojo: I never played Tekken 6 so I can't comment on this one.

Bryan Fury: He looks okay, but could use more muscle.

Eddy Gordo: Now we're talking! He only showed up a bit but the actor suits the game character quite well. Excellent Eddy fighting style.

Raven: Okay, they made him look like Raven.

Sergei Dragunov: I never played Tekken 5 DR so I can't comment on this one.

Yoshimitsu: Looks kinda like the Tekken 3 version, which is my favorite ^^ But of course he looks much much better in the game :p

Now I'll just make myself a cup of tea...
