The regret is replaced with anger-- how dare Tom do this to him? Gabe solidifies himself with his anger, resentment, and even hate. He wishes Tom were back, for no other reason but revenge... in some way, Gabe knows this need for vengeance is Tom winning. In some way, he doesn't care.
