Every time we kiss, I can't think straight.
Kurt thinks that this accurately describes his relationship with Sam. Even though they've been together for 6 months, to the day, not that Kurt counts or anything, kissing Sam is always like kissing him for the first time. Sam says that he has something special planned (after Kurt had brought up the topic during a stop at the Lima Bean) much to Kurt's protest (he'd brought it up as an idle comment, not a suggestion). He claims that they ignored every other mark, the 1 month, the 3 month. Half a year is something that not even Quinn and Finn had gotten to. It's an odd sense of pride, knowing that although Sam might not be quarterback and Kurt may not be the head cheerleader that they almost fit into that stereotype.
It's a sense of normalcy in their relationship. Dodging slushies and fists have become a specialty of theirs and they count their blessings that both of them have a coach looking out for them at McKinley, Coach Sylvester for Kurt and Bieste for Sam. Nothing had been easy, per say, in their relationship but there is this magnetic tug between the two. Even in the hallways of McKinley, they just have this physical attraction, Kurt's finger threaded through Sam's belt loop or Sam's fingers lightly holding onto Kurt's leather book bag. It's the little things in their relationship that Kurt is thankful for. They haven't exactly had sex yet, Kurt tells Sam just a few more weeks when in reality he's just waiting for Sam to say that he loves him. Kurt knows that he loves Sam, but something about the word, the phrase sends shivers down Kurt's spine in fear. They get through school together and now that Kurt's family is out of money for Dalton, if something happens, Kurt is left on his own.
Sam picks up Kurt at 6pm sharp (Kurt's impressed by this because for the past 6 months, Sam has always been at least 15 minutes late to every one of their dates). He tells Burt and Carole that Kurt will be back by at least 11 pm. Kurt raises an eyebrow because Sam is acting odd and it's hard to feel comfortable when Sam's not his Sam. "What's going on with you?"
Sam smiles as he opens the car door for Kurt whose questioning look remains the same. "We have a very special evening planned Yawne." Kurt rolls his eyes as the Na'vi speak that he's gotten so used to hearing in the past 6 months.
"What does that one mean?" He's been keeping track in his brain of the different pet names that Sam has for Kurt, but he can't remember what this one is off the top of his head. Sam smiles at him and locks his lips shut.
They pull up to this restaurant that Kurt swears is way out of their league money wise, but Sam assures Kurt that he'd been stalking the menu online, saving his paycheck and clipping coupons for their meal. Kurt's torn between thinking this is the sweetest thing ever and laughing. Sam tells Kurt what to order (he'd only brought enough for what he thought Kurt and he would like) when they're inside. Kurt notices that nobody else in the restaurant is wearing jeans, while Sam is clearly oblivious in his jeans and t shirt. It's endearing in a sort of embarrassing way.
"Hey," Sam snaps him out of his quick scan of everybody else appearance. He slides a little black box across the table towards Kurt, motioning for him to open it. Kurt's wary of it, it looks fancy. He opens the top, a little ring sits inside of it and Sam has this huge smile on his face.
"Sam Evans, are you proposing to me?" Kurt asks, shocked because not only have they been dating for 6 months, but gay marriage isn't even legal in Ohio yet. His mind is racing at miles per seconds, he wouldn't mind running away with Sam to somewhere like New York until they can go to Canada for a quick marriage. New York had always been a place that Kurt wanted to live in one day, just so fast paced and alive.
Sam shakes his head, "No way. Quinn thought the same thing," Kurt is confused if he's supposed to be offended by that comment or not, "It's a promise ring. Like, that I Samuel Evans promises to love you forever." At this point, Sam begins to stumble over his words, "Yeah. Cause I do." Kurt looks at him, waiting for him to continue because it's not complete until he says it in that exact fashion. Sam takes Kurt's hand, "I love you Kurt." Kurt smiles at him, taking Sam's hand as well and pulls him into a kiss. He knows that people are looking at them because they are the freak show at the restaurant tonight but he could care less.
He can barely think right now, the happiness surging through his veins. "I love you too."
Every time we kiss, I can't think straight.
