I may have mentioned, in my recent blog about PerschonCon, that this year will mark the first since I became involved in Pure Speculation that I will have read all of the available books by our author Guest of Honour prior to the festival. It helps that she only has six published novels, with one more slated for release in November. To be fair, depending on when in November that last book comes out, I might not have actually finished it in time for the festival, but I'll be close. :D
Etiquette and Espionage is Gail Carriger's first YA novel, and forms a bit of a prequel to the existing Parasol Protectorate series in that it gives a bit of background on a few of the peripheral characters, including Sidheag Maccon and Genevieve Lefoux (who is all of nine years old in book one). Like all of Gail Carriger's books to date, this one was just unabashedly fun to read! Applying her distinctive narrative voice to a boarding school story was a wonderful idea, and I'm glad she thought of it!
We're currently on vacation, roadtripping our way down to Portland for LeakyCon, and I brought only a very small number of books (we will be visiting Powell's in a few days!) so I'm hoping to actually finish The Casual Vacancy before we get home. It's not that I'm not liking it, I am, but I'm not finding it as absorbing as I'd hoped.
