Surprise! I cooked dinner!
My parents travel a lot, and My Sweetie and I usually end up taking care of the house for them while they're gone. Likewise, since I have a station wagon, and my parents usually golf when they travel, I usually picking them up from the airport. This time around, I hatched an ambitious plan. They were coming back from Florida around suppertime Thursday night, so I went over to their house midafternoon and put a pork roast and potatoes into the oven before heading to the airport to pick them up. So by the time we got back to their house, supper was almost ready.
I'd never done a pork roast before, and I was trying a recipe from a recent issue of Canadian Living. It involved maple syrup, mustard, and riesling wine. I was a little worried that it was going to come out too sweet, but the mustard and the wine cut the sweetness nicely, and it turned out REALLY well!
