William Walton is trying to kill us all

I mentioned that I'm singing in this pick-up choir for my friend's doctorate. What I did not mention is that, along with the Britten, we're also singing Ralph Vaughn Williams's settings of Full Fathom Five, The Cloud-Capp'd Towers, and Over Hill Over Dale; which are bizarre and wonderful! And also a Missa Brevis by William Walton. Harkening back to the University's Centenary and the Choir of Choirs project we participated in, this is the same William Walton who wrote I Was Glad, the epic, bombastic coronation hymn that we got to sing. This one is harder. Much harder.

We've had a couple of very frustrating rehearsals, and tonight was no different. I swear, I used to have a pretty good ear, but tonight I couldn't even hear the difference between the note we were singing and the one we were supposed to be singing, even after we'd FIXED it, I couldn't tell the difference! And the Flop decided to put in an appearance. Go away Flop, you're not wanted here!

It was not a great night.
