During the middle of my extremely hectic day today, I called my voice mail to check my messages. I was expecting a call from the dealership where I'm buying a car. Instead of a message about the hole I'm buying to continually throw money into, I hear the voice of a woman I'm currently tutoring in finite math--Tami. She said she thought I should be the first to know that she made a 100 on the exam she took last Thursday (after some help from me with tutoring and a LOT of work put in on her part). She said she couldn't have done it without me.
That one little message made my day. I've learned so much about math and teaching from tutoring Tami. I think I've gained even more from it than she has. And it REALLY made my day that she did so well, because I know how she has struggled. I was really pulling for her, and she got through it beautifully!
*sighs* It's things like this that make teaching worthwhile.
philosophy,
stories,
goals,
happiness
