Definitely not a date: Kumar showed up late, wearing weekend sweats and a snapback hat, and also he is rather less than half my age. Good to get that thought out of the way! We went to the Art Gallery as planned, and the new exhibition is great: I will definitely go again before it closes in a few weeks. It turns out that my companion knew nothing about art- like, seriously, nothing at all?- but he seemed happy to have me explain themes and history and the like. We had a quick pasta lunch, and then back to the studio, where he immediately disappeared under headphones. Ah, the young.
I'm presently sitting across the desk from my crushable coworker, who is surrounded by masses of paper and frowning at his phone. Wait, how is it 6pm already? And the sun was briefly out? And is it still raining?
Today is unremarkably normal, and I love that. My mood is normal, or at least normal-adjacent.
At the studio this rainy Saturday afternoon, I made and posted three portrait drawings. I'm thinking of what to make for supper from that leftover roast chicken: most likely something with vegetables and dumplings. I might do a little shopping on the way home. I very much like being a downtown dweller, walking to work, to the gym (in theory), to get groceries. This is what I signed up for.
Tomorrow, I have to bring my computer in for help with back-up and some service, while I do a face-painting gig and let me just say, I don't remember the last time anybody hired me specifically just to paint little kid faces. Special disease effects: check. Lead makeup designer for a well-known Santa parade: check. Colourfully attired to amuse children? Um... dunno.
And then at night is the Game of Thrones viewing party in our building's rec room, which last week was comprised of me and one other person, which you know what, that is just fine. And thus concludes the holiday weekend.
Here's progress: my first couple years of living alone, I felt extra-lonely at holidays, any of them, when uninvited anywhere to share. Now, happily, it's just a normal day with more things closed for business.
That's a gold star for me, isn't it? I'll take it.
