Squirrel Pancakes.

I test-rode my bike commute to PSU today. It went well, all things considered. I didn't die (or even get injured) in a motor/non-motor vehicle collision, or a bike/parked vehicle collision, or a bike/ground collision even. No, my only physical pain came from my own self-induced enthusiasm. I went down Vancouver, and then, after a little confusion at the transfer onto Flint, transferred onto the Broadway bridge (with the big, wide-open, lanes from everywhere intersection that scares me to drive through) with no problem. Went from NW to SW. Took cues from other cyclists, and probably didn't use hand signals enough (ever) but I was more worried about not fallin over in front of cars. In that sense, mission accomplished. But then, once you get to SW Broadway, it tilts uphill. How I didn't really factor this in sort of boggles me, since I used to live on that tilt and walk it everyday. Long story short, I almost passed out (seriously) in front of Schnitzer (sp?) Hall. Had to stop, sit down, drink a lot of water, and wait to stop quivering. My entire body between my thighs and my ears was one giant heartbeat. Obviously, it's been a few months since I've been in a spinning class (and a few weeks without doing anything at all), but this will get me right back into shape. If I don't die first.

Once at PSU, I got various little things done. Changed my Odin (PSU web system) account password and deleted an entire year's worth of junk mail. Paid my locker room fee, but couldn't get my lock combo to work. I'll deal with that on Monday, I suppose. The highlight of my time on campus, however, was getting a chicken fajita burrito at Cha!Cha!Cha!. They're still the best value for good food on campus. $4, and that burrito was both my lunch and my dinner (I strapped the tiny little take-home box to my bike rack with a bungie cord... it was cute, or pathetic, depending on how you wanna look at it). It's good to know some things don't change.

So then I got back on the bike and headed back. And promptly got lost. Not that I didn't know where I was, but I didn't know how to get where I wanted to go. I didn't plan the return trip quite as obsessively as I did figuring out how to get there. I was aiming for either the Steel bridge or the Broadway bridge again, but then 4th turned and went over the Burnside bridge and there was a lot of traffic and I kind of panicked and just went with it. And then I was on E Burnside and didn't know how to get anywhere from there. Somehow, after walking my bike for a while (I figured, if I was going to be lost, it would be best to not get more lost very quickly) I managed to get to streets with names that I could vaguely place on the map in my head, and somehow got back home.

I then proceeded to drink tons of water. I think I've had somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 ounces today (as opposed to my goal of 60, which I usually don't reach). I also went into a sort of comatose state. And then I moved boxes. And I haven't stretched, which is going to really suck tomorrow. Really suck.

Ooh, so my mom called me this afternoon/evening after I got home. I'm mentioned in the Eugene Weekly in the article about the Salon des Refuses show. You should all go read it and be as proud of me as I am. Or at least go read it. Maybe. *shrug*

I'm going to go pass out now.
