Aaaaah work today was GAH. It was a completely normal Friday, busy at first but toward the end I had one person at the cash register every ten minutes or so, and spent the rest of the time on restock. Didn't have any annoying customers or anything. Just, for some reason, I was really, really tired for most of the shift. And I pulled a muscle or SOMETHING in my left leg, because it is SORE. Geh... no more being lazy and doing nothing but playing video games for a whole day for me. Though doing absolutely nothing yesterday was actually a WONDERFUL feeling!
I work again tomorrow, off Sunday (for once!), then I work every single day of the week until Friday. Then it's off to Fall for Greenville! =D I feel really great about the schedule next week, actually. The fact that they're working me every day I don't have requested off ('cept Sunday) means that I'm actually a valuable employee now! *GASP!* Either that or it's that time of the year and EVERYBODY'S a valuable employee. H-hopefully the former? Also, a really annoying coworker of mine is going on a long vacation starting next week. So not only will I be getting more hours until November, I also won't have to work with her for over a month! HUZZAH.
I've been playing Legend of Dragoon a lot lately, because of the lack of a laptop that actually functions decently. ^^; But aside from a nostalgia trip (the last time I played LoD was when I was, what, fifteen, maybe? At most?), I'm re-discovering a lot about that game that I liked and hated. And discovering a LOT that I missed.
First of all, one of the enemies you fight is a menacing looking rooster. The name? Assassin Cock. Not even kidding on that one. How the hell did that get past the radar? 2000 was certainly a different place in the video game world.
Second, I just didn't pick up on a lot of stuff. Like...all the gay subtext. And no, it's not just the yaoi goggles either, because I saw subtext for a pairing I don't like at AAAALLLL.
But, yeah. The main character's name is Dart. Dart has a sword, is a fire user, and has several spells and finishing moves that are very...phallic. Intentionally so? Who knows. His first finisher is Double Slash. Not so bad, I giggled though, but mostly because the voice acting at the beginning of the game is TERRIBLE. Second finisher is Volcano, which he shouts in what is a burst of very terrible acting. But then there's the third finisher, Burning Rush. And then Crush Dance, which admittedly sounds and looks cool. He also has a few magic spells...Flame Shot. Which looks...yeeeeah. And Explosion. (Oh, there's an explosion all right *shot*) And his third level Dragoon magic is Final Burst. (lol orgasm jokes)
And Dart isn't even the beginning. The second character you run in to that joins your party is Lavitz. Oh, Lavitz. He carries around a spear, so there's the "lol penis" metaphor there. But I was able to overlook that because I'm (somewhat) mature. But his first finisher is Spinning Cane (I'll spin your cane?). Then there's Rod Typhoon (I'll typhoon your...yeah...). He also gets magic that summons pretty pretty flower petals. Which is especially funny considering he's a big burly soldier man.
Aside from the funny names of finishers and whatnot, there's also blatant OH MY GOD WHY DIDN'T I SEE THIS WHEN I WAS FIFTEEN subtext, like, IN YO FAYSE. Dart's "love interests" while Lavitz is around consists of Shana, who he sees as more of a baby sister (and Dart says this, repeatedly). Heck, LAVITZ and the token cool old martial arts master, Heschel, have more of an interest in Shana than he does. Then there's Rose, the kickass dark-haired chick who would sooner rip out Dart's intestines and choke him with them than go on a date with him (at this point of the game, anyway).
So for a good portion of the beginning plot, the main character has four "choices" as far as anything resembling romance goes:
1) baby sister character
2) badass bitch who has no interest in him
3) the old guy
or
4) Lavitz, who he has FAR too many ho yay and bromance moments with even in the short time Lavitz is in the party.
Seriously.
They're always going off on their own and leaving Shana behind. They have several "you're strong, I like you" moments. Lavitz keeps making cracks about having a "long relationship" with Dart. But what takes the cake is a certain spoilery moment where Lavitz gets stabbed and Dart holds him in his lap and they hold hands in a tragically poetic and touching moment that you expect to see in a harlequin romance novel but...it's Dart. And Lavitz.
I mean, yeah. I've played the game, I know how it ends. I'm just surprised that I didn't catch ANY of this when I was younger. It's not that I was naive (okay, yes I was), but still!
Anyway, aside from gay subtext and terrible voice acting, it really is a good game. It's definitely showing it's age, though. I'll probably want to cosplay Meru again after I finish playing it this time around. ^^;
This is mostly just for me so I won't forget to write these (and so that in the reshuffling of laptops that's going to happen, I don't magically lose the notepad document I have all these saved in).
I'm participating in
springkink 's November kinkfest...thingy. Originally I wasn't going to, but then I noticed that there was a lot of Kamen Rider, especially Den-O. Especially Momo/Ryou. So before I knew it I'd claimed some to write! xD
November 1st:
Kamen Rider Den-O, Momotaros/Ryoutarou: first time--"I was so nervous that I nearly missed" ("Photograph", by Nickelback)
November 13th:
Kamen Rider Den-O, Urataros/Momotaros: Sex in the water--"If I drown, I swear I'll haunt your perverted ass until the end of time!"
November 15th:
Kamen Rider Den-O, Ryuutaros/Kintaros: Hugging/cuddling--Kuma-chan was possibly the best person to cuddle up with at night...even with his thunderous snores.
November 25th:
Kamen Rider Den-O, Momotaros/Ryoutarou: Partners (in every sense of the word)--"I'm gonna hold you 'till the hurt is gone. Be the shoulder that you're leaning on. I'll be standing here for the next one hundred years" (Bon Jovi, "Next 100 Years")
I'm also reaaaally tempted to pick these up, too:
November 2nd: Final Fantasy VII, Vincent/Yuffie: matchmaking - Reeve kept sending them on missions together, damn him
November 6th: Spirited Away, Chihiro/Haku: rememberance; what was lost is now found; kissing in the rain - "come with me"
November 7th: Kamen Rider Kiva, Nago/Wataru/Taiga: Love Triange--"Wataru is MINE!"
November 11th: Soul Eater, Stein/Spirit: caught in the act - This… actually is what it looks likes.
November 14th: Kamen Rider Kiva, Jirou/Otoya: Denial--He did not miss Otoya. No, he definitely wasn't missing that foolish man.
November 22nd: Kamen Rider Decade, Kaitou/Tsukasa: Claiming--Kaitou wanted the "ultimate treasure" all for himself.
November 24th: Kamen Rider Den-O, Ryuutaros/Kintaros: Topping from the bottom, possessiveness--"Ne, Kuma-chan...do you like me?" (though I've basically already written this one...)
