FINALLY an AWA cosplay progress post!

Sep 01, 2009 01:59

Kekeke. Two hours into September, and I'm finally almost-kinda-sorta-done with one of my AWA costumes. Okay, so I still have to make boot covers, fiddle around with the leggings until they work, fix some seams that I'm SURE popped open when I got these progress pictures, and order my wig and other stuff. But for now I'm putting down this costume and starting on a new one.

See that? 90% of that is hand stitched. T_T But it looks so good! Please ignore the "bitch plz" look I'm giving my camera. And how dirty my mirror is. DX

the top is made mostly of shiny red swimsuit fabric! So it's suuuper comfy. And shiny! =D

Had to get at least one picture with mah bff Abra! <3 <3 <3

Aside from the major stuff like doing boot covers (may or may not have to buy shoes for those), fixing the legwarmers, and fixing all the seams that surely popped open while I was doing my impromptu photoshoot, there are a couple of things I'd like to get done (but they're not ZOMG IMPORTANNNNNT). Mainly I want to try to rig up a cardboard Marsh Badge with some fishing line to make it look like I'm suspsending it between my hands, like in this picture:

I also test-dyed a swatch of fabric for Mia today, and it turned out absolutely effing beautiful on camera:

The lighter shade on the left will be most of the costume, the darker shade on the right will be the cloak. I'll have to manually apply the dye with a paintbrush, but I think it's worth it for ZOMG ACCURACY.

Speaking of ZOMG ACCURACY,  you can't really tell in the pictures above, but I even paid attention to the placement of SEAMS. Granted I wasn't able to get every seam to COOPERATE, but that's more effort than I normally put into costumes. I think I've improved quite a lot over the past five years!

Anyway, therés a lot to get done over the next two and a half-ish weeks before AWA. The bulk of that work is Mia, though. xD I finally have all the materials I need, but now I'm running out of time. Of course. And I've only got 5 days completely free of work during the next two weeks.

So, it's looking more and more like I won't be going to the ball at AWA. I don't have the time or the materials (or the money, to be perfectly honest) to make the costume I want to make for the ball, and, honestly, that's the entire reason I even want to go. So to anyone going to AWA who happens to read this - if you're not going to the ball, want to hang out or go drinking or something? Otherwise I'll just go sleep in the hotel room or go to the video game room. >>
