Soul Eater Episode 51

Yes, I'm being obnoxious and posting twice in one day. Fortunately this entry is going to be very heavily lj-cut. Starting right after this colon:

So. The Soul Eater anime is finally over. It's been an interesting experience, to say the least. If I just forget for a second that there was ever a manga to begin with, it was actually a really great anime, though the ending just doesn't provide enough closure. I don't think I'll be happy until there's an OVA or movie or the like. I mean, really. They could have do SO much with just that ending title sequence. And don't get me started on THAT. Why did they use the weakest song in the entirety of both soundtracks? Resonance or Papermoon or even the obvious choice of Strength would have been a better fit there. But, I digress.

The thing I disliked about the ending was how much stuff they left unresolved. What happened to Mifune and Angela? Did Mifune become a teacher? Did Shibusen accept Angela, a witch, even though they are the enemy of witches? We saw Justin, but what happened to Giriko? Or Mosquito, for that matter? What about Eruka, Mizune and Free?

I also wanted to see what would happen when Maka and co. made it back to Death City. Kid's reaction to the fact that Shinigami-sama is still alive. Maka and Spirit's heartwarming reunion. Maka and Chrona's heartwarming reunion. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Also, the way that they ultimately defeated Ashura was just really...cliché. And lame. Though I'm glad they weren't able to defeat him with the Kishin Hunter, either, because that would have been equally lame. I think I honestly would have preferred either all three meisters attacking together to defeat him, in the classic shonen way, or Maka "reforming" Ashura (ie turning him into a good guy) in the classic shojo way.

Though I do have to applaud BONES on one thing: Maka as a weapon. That was really the only unexpected thing in this entire episode, and it was the best part of the ENTIRE episode, in my opinon. Seriously. Utterly badass.

I mean, DAMN. I don't even cosplay Maka and I want to make it.

I've also always wondered about whether Maka could transform into a weapon, given that Spirit is her dad, but I just always assumed that the "weapon" genetics got canceled out by her mother's genetics. Or something. I actually kind of hope that the mangaka touches on this subject in some way in the manga, because, really, it was insanely cool.

And now I'm unsuccessfully trying to curb the urge to write a long, plot-heavy fanfic that picks up right after the end of the series. I really, really am.

Curbing.

Curbing!

...aww fuck. BRB guys, writing a fanfic.
