Daily Updates are Good for the Soul
So I'm back from a looong winter break (or so it seems), and with a new semester of college classes (my LAST ONE) and the 2009 convention season ahead of me. The holidays weren't good for my weight, though I did get quite a bit of cosplay-related stuff done. But not enough.
So, my New Years Resolutions were the following: get in shape, finish my cosplays, and pass my classes. So in order to motivate myself to actually DO those three things, I'm going to start posting daily with a progress report. It won't be much, and will probably just be me saying "played DDR for 10 minutes and did 100 sit-ups this morning, finished blahblahblah for this costume, and I want to strangle X Professor", but it'll be something.
This upcoming semester is going to be an interesting one. As far as classes go, this is hopefully my schedule:
Monday: Intermediate Japanese 2 from 12:20 to 1:10, plus 4-5 hours working in the costume shop
Tuesday: Intro to Japanese culture (hee, easy class for my last semester) from 9:30 to 10:45, then Directing from 2:00 to 3:15
Wednesday: Advanced Costume Construction 2 from 9:30 to 12:00, then Intermediate Japanese from 12:20 to 1:10, then 2-3 work hours
Thursday: same as Tuesday
Friday: same as Monday
I can only assume that the two Japanese classes aren't going to be much trouble for me, a few tests here and there I need to cram for, but nothing hugely major. The Directing class is a big question mark for me, since I have absolutely no idea what to expect out of it, and I'm only taking it because it's required of me to graduate. The advanced costume construction class will probably kick my ass, but...
...it'll be fun! >D
The hours in the costume shop will be the same as ever, just putting together costumes for the plays, maintaining the shop, and listening to my Ipod a LOT.
As for the cosplay side of things, this is going to be my busiest semester EVER.
CONVENTION SCHEDULE:
Katsucon: February 13-15 (36 days away)
Momocon: March 14-15th (65 days away)
NashiCon: April 11th (93 days away)
Animazement: May 22-24 (134 days away)
I'm making a total of six costumes for the upcoming convention season:
Tsubaki (Soul Eater) - Animazement or Momocon only
Eruka Frog (Soul Eater) - Katsucon and Animazement definitely
Liz Thompson (Soul Eater) - Momocon or Animazement only
Roberta (Black Lagoon) - Katsucon and NashiCon only
Cornelia (Code Geass R2) - Katsucon definitely, others maybe
Leite (Gurren Lagann) - Animazement only
I'm also bringing my Lillymon and Kallen costumes with me to Animazement for photoshoot/crack purposes.
I'm still deeply in-progress on most of these costumes. Of them, Roberta, Liz and ironically Leite are the most complete so far. I've still got some major work to do, though. That's why I'm going to do these daily updates, so that I can get into the habit of at least working on cosplay every day until they're all done. Once I'm done with them (if I ever get done), I'll start making plushies to sell at the Nashicon (and also maybe Animazement) Artist Alley.
