The Keystone XL Pipeline
It is not an obscenely large amount of Oil, but it is a significant amount and it is an amount that will be sold China, if it is not made available to America, and soon.
This is not a project that would cost the Federal Government anything, all the Federal Government has to do, is allow it. If anything, the Federal Government would make a profit off this, in Taxes, Fees and Fines.
This project would create several temporary good jobs, many temporary crappy jobs, and a decent number of long term decent jobs.
There are environmental concerns for people who want to live in caves and eat grass, but others might consider oil a naturally occurring substance that is necessary for modern civilization, which has to be imported from hostile governments otherwise.
Delaying of this project, in order to avoid taking any responsibility for the decision until after elections, will likely result in the implementation of point one, by which I imply that it will be too late. China will own this oil, which means that both we and China, will be stuck shipping oil half of the way around the world from people we are ideologically diametrically opposed to.
This is in a way ironic. Someday we probably will be stuck, paying our debt to China, by selling them our critical resources, at fire sale prices and quite likely with slave labor. I just didn't think it would start so soon.
