August 27th
Today's her birthday. That's how I know, precisely today, it's been four years since I'm here by her side.
At first I thought she would love me as one loves a real person. She was living away from her family for the first time, and I was glad to keep her company.
Eventually, everything got to its proper place.
I'm a doll. And because of me being a doll, I can be whatever she fancies.
I've been a British boy, riding my bike in my school uniform. A Japanese child in kimono, carrying a pole of koi-nobori, or celebrating hanami under the blossoming cherry trees.
A pet. A friend. Once she cried on my shoulder.
Sometimes (not often), I've been just a pretty doll to look at.
Today, just on time for our birthday, a parcel from home arrived.
Well, from the place I once came from. This is my home now.
It means, even after four years, she still enjoys buying me presents.
So I'm happy.
