The cutest dog in South Philly.

I finally got to make the trek out to Erie this weekend, to pick up Lucy. Being as I am not a real adult, and still don't have a PA drivers license, or a bank account, I had a hard time getting a rental, and ended up taking the trip in a Philly Car Share. This was insanely expensive, as their pricing structure is set up for short trips, and short rental periods. To make a long story short, I could only really afford to do it as a day trip. I really wanted to stay over, but one day is all I could shell out for on the car share. One day, 900 miles, 15 hours of driving.

I woke up early on Saturday, and got right on the road. My intent was actually to leave Philly by 6am, but due to forgetfulness, traffic, technical inexperience (I rented a hybrid) and the after effects of a Friday night whiskey binge, I didn't get out of the city until 8. I was a little behind schedule, but it was absolutely beautiful out, and most of the drive was on I-80, which is a gorgeous stretch of highway (particularly in western PA.) I suppose the excitement of finally seeing my puppy was also keeping me going.

I had a great time in Erie, but that is fodder for a different journal. I really didn't want to leave, partly because I never see K and Ian (my friends who I adopted the pup from,) and partly because I was not excited about driving 7 hours home. I put it off so long that I didn't leave until 10pm. Driving over night doesn't bother me so much, I actually prefer it for long trips, but Lucy was not happy about it. She just sat in her crate the whole trip, looking like someone had just kicked her, oh... and puking. Yeah she was very car sick. We ended up stopping every hour and a half or so, so I could clean out her kennel, give her some water (I was worried about dehydration, with all the puking) and let the poor little nugget stretch out her legs. Also, I was exhausted, and I think that caffeine and frequent smoke breaks are the only things that kept me going.

Even with the frequent stops, I still made the trip in just under 7 hours. After dropping Lucy off at the house, cleaning the car, and dropping it off, I was finally home at 6am. I took a few minutes to show Lucy around, brought her outside to go to dump out and then passed out. Lucy let me sleep for about 3 hours before she was awake and pouncing my face. She is so freaking adorable that I didn't even get mad. I was actually happy to be awake and play with her. We spent the day running errands and playing in the park. EVERYONE wanted to look at her, pet her, and play with her. Let me tell you this dog is a total attention hog. She totally prances like she owns the world, and it is ten times worse when she knows people are watching her. It is almost like she is aware of her potential, and actually wants to melt faces off with her cuteness.

I left my memory card at work, so these are all cam phone pics. The full studio set up, insanely cute, puppy portraiture will be happening soon.

This is in K's living room, mere seconds after I met Lucy. I was instantly in love.

I was exhausted, but got my phone out for pictures anyway, when I went to pass out and she burrowed up into my arms.

I tried to sweep up the dirt and twigs and stuff, but Lucy apparently FUCKING HATES brooms. As soon as I started sweeping, she freaked out and attacked it. I guess I will have to crate her and sweep later.

Anyone who knows me very well, would have already guessed that I would have a sweater made for my dog by the end of the first day.
p.s. Not only does she not mind wearing it, she likes it.
