This past fall we ended up with a Playstation 3 in the house because my mom managed to get one ridiculously cheap from Amazon during their black friday deal. So now we have that with the really big 1080i TV in the living room as well. Making buying movies on Blu-ray an option now if it's something I really like and think it would be cool to watch in HD.
HOWEVER, the problem lies in that when buying a movie on Blu-ray, I'd be limited to watching it on the PS3, on that TV. We have DVD players all over the house, and I could take a DVD with my laptop, or other portable DVD player, or even bring it to watch on the DVD player at work. But if I buy a movie on Blu-ray, I can only watch it on the one player we have in the house. This in particular has led me to not want to buy movies on Blu-ray.
I was looking up Disney's release of Bolt however, and they seem to have come to a solution for this problem! Bolt is being released on Blu-ray on March 22, and DVD on March 24. The Blu-ray release actually includes the movie on a DVD disc as well! This is, to me, the PERFECT way to solve this current problem. Because of this, I will be buying Bolt on Blu-ray now. I'll be able to watch it in HD if I want to sit in the living room and use the PS3, yet still have the portability of the DVD as well. Kudos to Disney for trying this out.
This isn't to say I'd buy any movie on Blu-ray over DVD. But I like Bolt enough and typically CG movies really benefit from HD since they're rendered like that in the first place.
