Well, about time for another LJ post I think.
As I mentioned in my last entry,
FA: United was last weekend. And now that it's over, I'm so glad I decided to go. I've never been to a con that small before, and it was just so much fun. There were 381 people attending the con, which was about 1/9th the the number of people at Anthrocon this year. Going in there were a few people I knew would be there, and after actually getting there I discovered there were more people I knew there than I was expecting to see there! And the fact that it was such a small con meant that everyone wasn't insanely busy so there was actually time to hang out with people!

I was there from Thursday afternoon through Monday morning. I also gave out my
Furry Trading Cards to a lot of people there. Basically anyone I was friends with, or if it was someone I met there and spoke with a little bit I'd mention it and give them my cards.
dorallizard and
elrabincougar were also handing out their cards to friends. The response over them was very positive. Everyone seemed to love the idea and there were quite a few committments from people regarding getting in on it themselves at some point. Interest continues to build, and I still have every reason to believe the whole FTC thing could end up being huge based on all the reaction to it. :D
But yes, FA:U was so much fun, and I think I'll go back next year. The only bad thing to come out of it was a horrible case of con crud. After I got home, I felt like I was coming down with something. And wouldn't you know it, I came down with a terrible cold that I'm still on the tail end of. But it's much better than it was earlier this week. It was worst on Wednesday and Thursday, I ended up taking another day off work because of it (Was supposed to go back to work on Thursday). I've never really gotten sick like that coming out of a con before, in 7 years of going. (8 if you include Otakon 2001)
Speaking of which, in other news,
Otakon is going on right now, this weekend, and this is the first time I have not gone to it since I started going to Otakon in 2001. Over the years the people I went to that con with have slowly stopped going. There are still a couple people I know who go there, but I can't justify taking the time off work and spending the money to hit Otakon when going to cons like Anthrocon and FA:U are just so much more fun due to the number of people I know there. It's much more social than just sitting around watching anime and industry panels and buying anime stuff. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to Otakon. Maybe if it falls on a weekend I happen to be off I might. I'd have to just see who else is going and all. But I'd really rather make fur cons a higher priority based on the experience at each.
