Q: How big a landslide would Obama win by if all the world were able to vote under the electoral college system?

A: As of this posting, 8969 to 285.

The economist.com website has allocated electoral college votes to all of the world's nations - based on population, just like in the US - and asked subscribers to vote either Republican or Democrat. There are 9875 electoral college votes in this global mock election.

Of those who:

a: are of sufficient socioeconomic status to have internet access,
b: are subscribers to economist.com,
c: choose to vote,

the vastly overwhelming majority of citizens of the world - including China and India, which between them have a little over 35% of the electoral college - prefer Obama/Biden over McCain/Palin.

We in Australia, by the way, have 31 electoral college votes, or 0.31% of the total, and we are are 89% blue.
