"Jo, jo," Sagramore says, low and soft against his mouth, and Gaheris gasps aloud; tries not to beg.
He's always been smaller, weaker, stupider, shyer, never anywhere as good as his brothers. He knows that. He doesn't expect first in anything. He doesn't expect lovers to match Mordred's, or friends who love him as Gawain's do.
But Sagramore came to him first, said, "Why be alone? It's cold," and, God, it's beautiful--feels beautiful--
He's still never the best, he knows, he doesn't let himself forget--but, God!--Sagramore's got him in hand, gloriously, and Gaheris pretends he's as fine.
