Avalon was an enchanted island where King Arthur took refuge after his final defeat. He stayed there and his wounds were cared for and healed before he returned to his kingdom. In a corner of his mind, Arthur thinks about what legend’s name would be fitting for him but can’t think of any, no one cares to hear the story of the cowards.

Arthurs shoe is hit but a red rubber ball. A young girl comes running after it a minute later and stops just before him.

"Excuse me mister, may I have my ball back please?"

Arthur kneels down to the little girls’ level; she has her hair and his eyes. "Of course, what's your name?"

"Avalon, but my mom calls me Ava."

"You have a very beautiful name, Avalon. How old are you?"

She takes the red ball from his open hands, “Six.”

She stands back from him with the red ball grasped tightly between her small hands and looks at him. Her eyes squint around the corners in concentration, like she’s trying to remember something. Suddenly, her eyes light up and she gasps like she's just solved a puzzle.

"I know you!" She doesn't give Arthur a chance to speak, let alone breathe before continuing, "My mommy has a picture of you at our house! She keeps it beside her bed and whispers to it sometimes, but I can never hear what she says."

He tries his best to smile for the young girl, "I'm an old friend of your mothers."

It doesn’t even begin to explain the story that is Arthur and Ariadne, but it is all that he can offer the small girls mind. He reaches into his pant pocket and takes out a red die and a piece of paper. "Could you give her this for me?”

I will still always care for you, in this world and all the others that we’ve created.

She crinkles her nose after taking the note from his fingers and shamelessly reading it, "Silly, there's just one."

"I suppose your right; you're a very bright girl, Ava. Don't let anyone ever tell you other wise."

She plucks the die from his hand and admires the colour, "Red is my favourite colour," She says "my mom's too."

He rests a light hand on the top of her head and allows himself to cup her cheek for a brief moment before standing up straight, and making his leave. It's what he's best at.

"Hey mister, she misses you, ya'know." Her soft voice calls to him, "She doesn't say it, but she does."This is what happens when I'm bored at work. This was kind of new territory for me, it was a lot of dialogue which I don't normally have. What did you think? Good? Bad?
