So last night I was at Swordplay (Reseda) and had a 6 step choreography to learn. We had been using rapiers for the last few weeks, but we changed it up and went with a cutlass instead. The nice thing about that was we got some arm swing action going on.
Our instructor, Kris, stepped it up a bit. Normally he shows us the entire routine, then works three pieces at a time. Last night he wanted us to do all 6 from the beginning. For some reason, I was having issues with my advances. Normally I am ok, but I guess I was concentrating too much on all the moves and my footing was all off. Kris had to remind me again and again that I was screwing up my footing.
I think Kris may have been off his game last night though. Towards the end of the night he reminded us that we should work one piece to perfection, yet had us trying to do the whole thing at once. He also was making mistakes in teaching by telling people opposite things then he was thinking. Well, it was his first day back from vacation, so I guess I can give him some slack. :D
The funny thing was what T.J. said near the end of the night. He was watching me and my partner, Karen, and commented after watching us, "Hmmmm, maybe a little more Pirate and a little less Penzance." We all had a good laugh at that and it became the catchphrase of the night :-)
