Another year gone. Another year of meeting old friends and new, then Leavetakings four days later. This year was so much fun, it is hard to describe, but I will give it a shot.
Thursday was filled with getting setup for Con: Loading up at
segurant's house with all the Track paraphernalia, checking into the room at the Marriot, getting the Track room ready with Jimmy and plenty of help from Wil and Eniara. After that was accomplished, we rested for a bit and got ready for the Goldschlagger toast. I really can't describe how vile that stuff is, but I am glad I had a Sam Adams to wash it down with. Plenty of Raisings and First Sister ceremonies.
Friday was the official start of Dragon*Con. Imagine 10,000 Geeks in one place, all acting a bit more free than usual. Yeah, that is Con :D I didn't have much to do that day so we started drinking early, like 9 am early. Lots of friends and lots of hugs. 10th floor party was Jell-O shots and bashing each other with shinai (kendo practice swords). We all let
valorian win ;)
Saturday I hosted the Wheel of Time costume contest. Now, I don't know if this is a testament to how many people think I am an outright leech or if people have a better sense of humor than I do, but you make one nice comment to a contestant and it gets all taken out of context :D Really, all I said was "Nice Shawl". That's it. I was trying to fill time while the contestant paraded in front of the judges. Of course, it didn't help that the poor dear's bosom was pushed up to her shoulders. Night was filled with drinking, as usual.
Sunday had me hosting the Fan Art panel. Now, I really thought this would be the last year of the Art panel. Nobody had ever really turned up to it in the past when I hosted, and we couldn't really fill one hour. This year was different. We got some great questions from the audience, with a little prodding here and there from friends, but once the ball started rolling, we actually came close to going over an hour, and we were wanted back by a lot of people. Just goes to show, never say never....
Monday was a sad day. Many of our friends were driving or flying home. It is hurtful to see all those people that know you so well leave after so much great times. I hear a few people are suffering from Post Con Partum. I stayed an extra day so that I could help out. Monday afternoon saw us packing up the Track room and hauling it all back to
segurant and
lady_kathana's house to be put away for another year.
Tuesday morning I shipped out a heron marked blade that Segurant gave me for services rendered to the Wheel of Time community. That was just to great of a gift and I am still "mad" at him for it :P I got to the airport in plenty of time, but after waiting on the plane for an hour, the flight was canceled due to an Engine Vibration light. After standing in line for 4 hours, I got booked on a flight at 0530 on Wednesday. I made it back, but my luggage didn't. I never take luggage, NEVER. I always take carry-ons. The ONE TIME I decide to take a bag, it gets lost. How do you like that. All my Con stuff was in there, along with my camera and other essentials. Oy!
I already miss
segurant,
lady_kathana,
bondgirl51,
valorian,
jesskastar,
seri_shannan,
penryn and everyone else I just can't remember the LJ name of at the moment. You all mean a lot to me, truly. I think valorian and I have a better understanding of each other, and I have a new found respect for him, as if I didn't already. I had a great time getting to know so much more with
bondgirl51! She is truly the cat's meow.
That is enough for now. If I remember more, I will edit :D
