Only London-based, and not long long distance (78 miles) but a proper project. Beloved and I have talked about trying to do some walking on holiday this summer. Where yet I don't know, but yesterday we got a book out of the library on the Thames Walk. About 180 miles and needs a bit of planning, but might be worth looking at. We had both felt a little listless and possibly also a little fat, and walking might be a good compromise answer.
Anyway the weather was suddenly better yesterday in the afternoon and, inspired by our book, we both felt prompted to do something about it. Beloved rustled around in her box of saved things and came out with a guide for a couple of the walks on the Capital Ring. One of the walks begins at the end of the route from the bus which stops outside our house so by 2.15 we were outside Grove Park Station and en route to Crystal Palace Park.
And I think we're hooked, finding hidden back ways, green bits which we'd never known were there, a Kent cc cricket ground, places where Beloved had worked, and a better sense of local geography - and all in 9 miles. A good new thing!
