Today at work I failed at a unique opportunity to educate. Granted, there was a vast cultural divide, and the complete answer would require a great deal of history.
My millionaire, Armani-wearing, algebra-befuddled, Saudi student asked me what affirmative action is.
He was very confused as to why such a thing was necessary because after his father lost millions in the stock market and his family became "poor", he became a much more motivated student. He asked why this would not be true of all "poor" people.
I just really didn't know how to proceed from there.
